Homes outside sewer service on the Gig Harbor peninsula, around Purdy, Wauna, Rosedale, Fox Island and Arletta, commonly use septic. If you're not sure, check whether you pay a sewer bill, or ask the Health Department for your property's record drawing.
Selling? Pierce County requires a Report of System Status (RSS) before closing: a certified septic company inspects and pumps all tanks, then you apply to the Health Department. Apply early. Review takes about 10 business days and can't be rushed.
Waterfront owners: TPCHD's option to stretch routine inspections from every 3 to every 5 years is not open to properties on a shoreline, so plan on the regular schedule. Steep, wooded lots can also mean deeper or harder-to-reach lids; mention access in your request.
- Use a firm on the TPCHD certified company list.
- Source for the shoreline exclusion: TPCHD reduced inspection frequency.
